MaBaSoft Quit Control Strip Module enables you to quit applications without having to make them active.
You can quit a single application, all applications except the active one or all running applications.
Quit CSM also supplies memory information: it displays current largest unused memory block and application sizes.
System Requirements
MaBaSoft Quit Control Strip Module runs on all types of Mac and needs System 7.1.1 or higher. Control Strip control panel needs to be installed.
Installation
To install MaBaSoft Quit Control Strip Module, place the file MaBaSoft Quit CSM in the Control Strip Modules folder in your System Folder and restart your computer.
Quit Menu Quick Reference
• Show Largest Unused Block
Shows or hides the indication of the current largest unused memory block in Quit’s display. The absolute unused RAM is expressed in MB, while the percentage unused RAM is displayed graphically through the “memory bar”.
• Show Application Size
Adds or removes the indication of the memory size of each running application in the Quit menu.
• Quit Others
Quits all running applications except the active one. Disabled when a single application is running or when the Finder is active.
• Quit All
Quits all running applications. Disabled when a single application is running.
Using MaBaSoft Quit Control Strip Module
Suppose you have just start up your computer: no application is running yet. Click on Quit’s display to show the Quit menu.
The Quit menu doesn’t indicate any running application and the “Quit Others” and “Quit All” command are disabled. Notice that the Finder is not included in the running applications’ list.
Run now the three applications myApplication1, myApplication2, myApplication3. The Quit menu becomes:
Three new commands have been added to the Quit menu, one for each running application. The command corresponding to myApplication3 is checked to remind you that this is the active application.
Select one of these commands to quit the corresponding application. If you want to quit all applications except the one you are using, choose the “Quit Others” command. If you want to quit all running applications instead, just choose the “Quit All” command.
Note: Applications developed before the introduction of System 7.0 are not included in the Quit Menu, because they do not support Apple Events and cannot be quitted from Quit CSM. For the same reason Quit CSM is not able to quit other applications, when an application preceding System 7.0 is active: the Quit commands are disabled in this case.
In certain cases (you are running out of memory) the decision about what application to quit depends on the running applications’ memory sizes. Check the “Show Application Size” option, so that the Quit menu displays the memory size associated to each running application:
Quit CSM can give you also another memory information: check the “Show Largest Unused Block” in the Quit menu to display the current largest unused memory block (expressed in MB) and the percentage of unused RAM (shown graphically through the “memory bar”) in Quit’s display.
The “memory bar” color can be changed: 12 color layouts are at your disposal. To rotate through the different color options, display the “memory bar” (i.e. check the “Show Largest Unused Block” option) and click on the Quit’s display while pressing the command key. Repeat this operation until the desired color is shown.
